Course Description: To encourage music appreciation through the process of fundamental success (i.e. marching band, concert band, solo and ensemble). Students taking this course are provided with a balanced, comprehensive study of music through concert band, symphonic band, marching band, and small ensembles. These ensembles will develop skills in the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains. Instruction is designed so that students are able to connect, examine, imagine, define, try, extend, refine, and integrate music into other subject areas. Students will develop the ability to understand and convey the composer’s intent in order to connect the performer and the audience. Students will also have the opportunity to view live performances by professional musician. Topics: Ensemble and solo performances are designed to develop elements of musicianship including, but not limited to:
1. Tone Production
2. Instrument Technique
3. Intonation
4. Music reading including Sight Reading
5. Listening Skills
6. Analyzing Music
7. Music History Materials: Instrument, Instrument supplies (i.e. reeds, swabs, and valve oils), pencil, and tuner.
Textbooks: Fundamentals for band by Weber Course Policy: Students will follow all policies set forth in the School Handbook and Band Student Handbook.
